You know those albums you hear once and feel like you've grown up with? Slings & Arrows is one of those albums. The Chase have made an absolute cracker here, full of great riffs, catchy tunes and meaningful lyrics; there's truely something for everyone! There's a definite influence of The Jam and Oasis here, along with many, MANY other bands! So, who wants a track by track?

1) ‘Tonight’ THIS IS MY NEW FAVOURITE SONG. An absolute corker, and a great way to start off the album! Tonight pretty much sums up The Chase for me; puncy, powerful and catchy. The vocals remind me a lot of Liam Gallagher and the guitar sounds like the Stereophonics... I love it!

2)  ‘You’ A real burst of energy this one! Kicking into life with a great guitar riff that could've come from the hands of Lord Weller himself, the track soon progresses into a great indie pop song that's bound to be stuck in your head for weeks... Another quality track!

3) ‘Touchpaper’ Touchpaper. Is. Quality. Singer and guitarist Michael Turvey croons effortlessly into the mic as all around him breaks out a guitar, drum and bass roar; bombastic, primal drumming mixed expertly with rocky guitars and pulsing bass makes Touchpaper *maybe* my favourite track of the album. The lyrics are great too!

4) ‘Make Your Escape’ Moving into a slower, more melodic track here, The Chase show their versatility on the anthemic Make Your Escape. It sounds like it could life the roof off Wembley!

5) ‘Truth & Lies’ Acoustic, soft and shimmering, Truth & Lies is a melancholy tune that sounds, dare I say it? Like... The 80's? It's true; from the beautiful melody to the synth-laden chorus, Truth & Lies has a definite air of 80's about it, but in the most beautiful way possible.

6) ‘Stolen’ Another good track, not as great as the rest of the album but still quality - a strong drum beat drives the track forward, while guitarists Turvey and Harry Street and bassist Luke Jerome provide musical backing to the synths of keyboardist/sax guy/backing vocalist Ben Riley - great as always.

7) ‘On My Way’ On On My Way The Chase show how deeply the influence of The Jam is imprinted on them; this one sounds A LOT like Weller and co. Catchy as hell with guitars to match, On My Way is the beating heart of the album and shows a bit of a change in sound for The Chase. Another album highlight, and again, *maybe* my favourite on the album... It's too hard to choose!

8) ‘A Different Place’ It sounds a bit like American Pie in the beginning, but soon A Different Place transforms into a pulsing, rhythymic beast of an anthem. A real rock and roller, sounding like an Oasis/Stereophonics mix; The Chase are on top form with this one.

9) ‘Until The End’ YET ANOTHER top tune, full of Queen riffage and drums. Vocalist Michael Turvey could pass for a young Liam Gallagher, and on this track the bass rises to prominance, keeping the track grooving along nicely - take a bow Luke Jerome! Great track!

10) ‘Home & Tea’ One of my favourite titles for a 'last-track-on-the-album' for a while and a great way to round off Slings & Arrows. Home & Tea is a slow, piano led ballad with touching lyrics, soft synths and a truely beautiful chorus, it's possibly my favourite track on the album.

So there it is! My new favourite album and it should be yours too. Here's a link to buy it -
